Only on Sunday mornings do we need the sink at the same time and it's not that big of a conundrum. Also because we didn't do the 2nd sink, I got an extra bank of drawers and I'd much rather have storage in the bathroom than another sink to clean. :)Amberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09136480719990550856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944273077019168833.post-29194589561997205992012-09-26T21:32:54.437-06:002012-09-26T21:32:54.437-06:00THANK you everyone for your comments! i have enjoy...THANK you everyone for your comments! i have enjoyed reading each one, and i really appreciate everyones "two cents". all of the input has been tremendous. i am really excited to share the floor plans....hopefully next week i can post them.
:)
autumnautumnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07740076098992546184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944273077019168833.post-60361450073314970232012-09-26T15:17:48.146-06:002012-09-26T15:17:48.146-06:00Some are surprising and others not. Don't have room for a laundry tub but will istall one in the basement. Closet space is not great (plus I have ALOT of clothes) so I will use master walk in and hubby a guest room closet. This was a great survey. BTW, do you use scatter rugs in the kitchen to protect against water? I plan to use one at the sink and by the fridge. My answers were all in the majority except for the double vanities which I think are only important if you both have to get ready at the same time in the morning, as well as the laundry sink which I only use to clean paint brushes. Our last home was the first time I had double wall ovens and they really are great when you're entertaining and need to cook/bake a few things at once. As for closets, my husband is a total closet hog so separate ones are vital! (in fact, he uses the spare bedroom as a dressing/ironing room and I use the main closet for myself!)lisaroyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09201063720578870254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944273077019168833.post-88053984397683020972012-09-26T10:13:56.315-06:002012-09-26T10:13:56.315-06:00I had a utility sink installed in my garage (not t...I had a utility sink installed in my garage (not the laundry room), and I love it! It's perfect for cleaning paintbrushes, washing the dog, cleaning camping gear or basically anything else too yucky to bring into the house! As far as double vanities, I'm with you totally. We have had double sinks in our last 3 houses, but for some reason we always end up using the same sink for everything. I would love the extra counter space instead. I do wonder if you might be able to have the plumber plumb for a 2nd sink (even though you aren't using it), so in the event you want to re-sell you could let potential buyers know that is already done. I think it would be relatively cheap during the building process, as opposed to adding it later!Erinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14284714257964137043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944273077019168833.post-84316913464896277172012-09-26T06:54:25.218-06:002012-09-26T06:54:25.218-06:00And just to add, I did buy a "regular" o...And just to add, I did buy a "regular" oven that can be divided so you can cook in two sections simultaneously. Plus, I have a microwave that doubles as a small convection oven. For my needs, that makes more sense. As a result, I think a lot of things are a bit over-the-top. Unless you have a very large family or entertain on a large scale constantly, I don't see the need for a double oven. (I would not need one myself.) I think if homes were more efficiently laid out, we wouldn't need all these giant McMansions.

As for my closet, I wouldn't care as long as I have enough room. I think my large reach-in closet is pretty luxurious after the tiny places I've lived.
I also think granite is really outdated already (although I do have a friend who has a gorgeous set of counters, but imo, 90% of the granite people choose is hideous). And though I love hardwood floors, I like cork floors in the kitchen, having had them in a place I lived previously.

Whew. I just spilled my design guts there.Fionahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04175988518794409281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944273077019168833.post-27507534137209246162012-09-25T16:44:01.319-06:002012-09-25T16:44:01.319-06:00I am going to essentially agree with Ryan and Sylv...I am going to essentially agree with Ryan and Sylvia's comment. I think two full ovens take up too much room (unless you have a huge kitchen) but I'm really a fan of split ovens with one regular sized oven and a smaller oven (stacked--usually on top) that is about the size of the drawer that's usually under a regular solo oven. I've only used an (electric) oven like this every once in a while (at the in-laws), but they seem so convenient. You can fit large things like a turkey in the bigger one while still having plenty of room for rolls, pies, casseroles or pretty much anything that's not tall in the smaller oven. The small oven seems to heat up in seconds, and you don't lose too much storage space!Josephinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10961750299211241183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944273077019168833.post-28925339178161536392012-09-25T16:42:47.650-06:002012-09-25T16:42:47.650-06:00My husband and I also seem to migrate toward one ...My husband and I also seem to migrate toward one sink (even though we have two) but I think some of these things are important for resale. We ended up with another formal dining room in current house that we MAY use once a year, but the "resale" word always looms. I could get by with just a big whopper shower, but know the jetted tub will hook some one with time to soak. I guess all of that goes out the window if you are in your "forever" home. It is really nice to have both when entertaining, but it doesn't take up the room of two large ovens. While coking in the larger one, you can heat bread or cook a side in the small side oven. Here is an example of one: http://www.lowes.com/pd_128032-2251-FPDF4085KF_0__?productId=3386500&Ntt=gas+rangeRyan and Sylvia Mackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10206443221551905984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944273077019168833.post-56021229969031058312012-09-25T12:10:51.404-06:002012-09-25T12:10:51.404-06:00Just have to say, there has been an ongoing debate...Just have to say, there has been an ongoing debate at my house about the sink in the laundry room. I read your question to my husband, because I use it a a "utility sink" for paint brushes exclusively, while he seems to think it is for laundry!

Also, we used to laugh at all the people on house hunters who said a single sink in the master bath was a deal breaker.
