messin' with mother nature

yesterday i ran to the grocery store to pick up a few things, when i spotted these babies:
 
i let out an audible "eeewwwww" as i walked over to investigate. they are actually white orchids,
"magically" created by dying them with blue water.
i don't know why, but something about seeing a blue orchid really chapped my hide.
i mean, what wrong with NORMALLY colored orchids?

i walked out of the store muttering to myself like a crazy lady.
what do you think about blue orchids?
are you as bothered as me?
or do you think the blue is a refreshing change?

    I will always prefer the plant that nature provides not some tacky hybrid and a blue orchid is just bad.

    You can always tell when cut flowers have been dyed and it bugs me too. I would have been right there with ya.

    Completely with you on this! White orchids are so elegant and the dye makes them look tacky and cheap!

    Damn straight! Those crazy food-coloured flowers always bite my biscuit too. Flowers in their natural state are one of the most beautiful things! It's nature for goodness sake - put away the dye!

    Totally with you on this one. If I ever see dyed flowers in an arrangement, I find out what florist it came from and make a mental note to NEVER buy anything from that florist. It's just wrong.

    I remember a neighbor doing that same thing with daisies and carnations...back in the 80's! At best, I think it's outdated. The beauty of a white orchid is irreplaceable.

    Thank you! I totally agree! We saw them last May and my daughter wanted to buy one for her teacher (end-of-yr gift). I absolutely refused to buy blue orchids! LOL I'm sure she thought I was nuts, but I muttered the entire time in the store as you did. ha We got a beautiful, natural orchid for her teacher. :)

    This post made me laugh. I think they too are weird, awkward and wacky. I did however use one in a show house room this year. I thought it fit perfectly with my wild tween room. A tween is weird, awkward and wacky so it fit the bill perfectly. Check it out in the room

    i think dying carnations for st patty's day in elementary school is cute. blue orchids...not so much. and i do like smurfs. when you asked if we would buy one, did you mean a blue orchid or a smurf? because i would totally buy a smurf! a real one, that is.

    LOL! I just choked on my wine!! I could not agree with you more!! I saw them recently too and had to go up and touch them - could not believe they were real. The thing that got me is that the white ones are normally more expensive than any other color, so why in the world would they waste them like this!!? Reminds me of carnations at Valentines Day. Yuck. I'll stick with the white!

    I saw them recently at the grocery store and I'm sure my face crinkled up. They look cheap and tacky. The dyed look doesn't work on any flower. Just like you said, messin' with nature.

    Guess I have to go again the grain and say I like them. No I don't like smurfs (grin) but I do like the flowers. Maybe because not a single thing that comes into my house stays white....thank you children. So it's better to just come into my house with lots of color!

    I saw the same thing and let out an "OMG what have they done?" I hate the look - why "paint" something that is naturally gorgeous?!
