3 or 5?

i am trying to choose between these two door styles for our interior doors.
(why do i have such a hard time selecting doors?)
i painted the doors in our last house benjamin moores ONYX (my favorite black), and would like to do something similar in my new house....but i am thinking i want the color to be a little softer. like a deep warm grey color or a rich mushroomy taupe.
anyway, onto the door style:

3 panel?


or 5 panel?

which ones do you like?
OPINIONS needed!
(and you should also know that i prefer one, and my husband prefers the other. so ya'll better like the ones that i like. or else.)

    I love the six panel! I don't think you can go wrong with more simple detail!

    I like the 5 panel...it looks more vintage. The 3 panel looks more contemporary. Keep us posted!

    All I can think of is the dust that will collect on the bottom of each divider. So go for 3! Less to clean.

    I like three - it looks more contemporary, which, to me, is more your taste. Can't wait to see the dark color on them!

    I like 3. More stream-lined, visually balanced, and clean. I would be scared the 5 panel would make the ceilings not look as high because of the extra horizontal lines.

    5--so gorgeous and classic. The dimensions of the panels on the 3 look funny to me--door panels are practically always rectangular and having then square feels weird somehow. Even though I love a square window at the top of a Craftsman style exterior door, it feels funny on an interior door.

    The 5 panel looks a bit Arts & Crafts...which I don't think is what you're after? I would go for the 3. Have you, by any chance, thought of amore traditional 2 panel? Just to confuse matters!

    I went back and forth between them for a while but since I'm in the process of painting all the trim and doors in my house, I would choose the 3 panel. Less panels to paint :) I also like that it is more contemporary .

    Three. The five panel is awesome, but it definitely is a throwback to the way past. Three seems more versatile style-wise. And, I just like it better.

    We have the 5 panel in our house and I love them. We always get compliments on them. Something about the 3 panel looks strange to me!? Maybe it's the square shape?!

    I think it's the raised panel on the 3 panel door that I am not crazy about. Maybe a 3 FLAT panel door?

    I have the five panel, so I'm biased. (And it doesn't get particularly dusty at all.) Honestly, I hate that bevel-type indent on doors. To me, those bevels on the three look old-fashioned and builder model quality.

    3 panel! The 5 panel is a little arts and crafts meets 1950's? If I bought a new house with either one already installed they would both be great, but if I HAD to choose one it would be the 3 panel!

    I like the simplicity of the 3 panel door, but the 5 panel door looks less cookie cutter to me, yes, I prefer the 5 panel door.

    Will you follow through with the rest of the cabinetry, taking a cue from these doors? What happens with each door you need, i.e. do you have any extremely narrow doors which may squish the panels to make some of them look odd or very different, especially located adjacent or in the same space? The horizontal 5-panel may be the most adaptable in that instance. (Fwiw, I have 5-panels in my 1910 house only on the third floor maids quarters, though. The rest of the house has dressier, vertical panels--none of them are raised panel.) The 5 panel looks more substantial; I agree with whoever said the 3 looks like builder quality. Still, because the 3 panel is more contemporary, I might give it the edge, especially if any of these may have panels replaced with glass or frosted glass.

    I think naturally I would have picked the three, but we have the five panel in our new house and I actually love them. It is one of the first thing people notice and complement when they walk in our house. So, I would say five!

    I follow your blog with interest, but I don't like either of these doors. They both look cheap to me. Painting them darker might help. Isn't there another choice?

    I like the 3 panel one. And look at Sherwin Williams Anonymous. My friend's doors are painted this color and they look great.

    It looks like the panes (?) on the five panel are deeper and will collect more dust. That would be my biggest concern. But, the fives look more custom. The threes seem that they are more colonial or traditional than the five. I'd go with the fives, I think. I think that your style is more eclectic than traditional.

    Try chelsea gray. We have it and love it.

    It looks like the 3 panel is a raised panel style and the 5 panel is a Shaker style - two very different looks in addition to the number of panels.

    Think about the rest of the trim and other details in the house and which style door fits the overall plan. I would look at each door in every size you need to see how the size of the panels changes - it may influence your decision. And dust will be more of a concern on the Shaker style door.

    While I generally like 5 panels, they can look kind of busy depending upon the size of the hallways, etc... I like the 3 panel, but how about an option that doesn't have the raised panels?     I'm super late jumping in on this but I say 5 panel without a doubt! I hope the weather starts cooperating with you! Maybe you need to move back to TN....at least you know that the cold weather is only sporadic here! ;)
