ORC week 5

it is week 5 of the one room challenge and all is well!
i only have the pillows left to pick up and a few pictures to put in the frames on the wall, and bring in a few more accessories.

this week i installed some bamboo blinds under the curtains and a bit higher than the wood blinds that are already there. i love the way they create some softness and bring some wood tones to the wall. they also help bridge the gap between the top of the window and the curtain rod.

what a difference, eh?

i also hung most of the art on the wall. i had several other pieces that i ultimately decided to use in another room. both grady and i agreed that the room felt "right" with less stuff on the walls.

(on a side note...when i was designing grady's room, i asked him what he wanted and he told me "i want it to be all black and white. with no color. like a really old movie, like from the 1970's." ACK!! a REALLY OLD black and white movie from the 1970's? like movies made in the 70's were all black and white?? gheesh that made me feel really old!)

i am really excited to show the reveal of this room next week!
stay tuned!

  1. What a wonderfully sophisticated room for your son! I love that you added the bamboo blinds. I totally understand why people hang curtains as high as possible, but sometimes the gap between the top of the window and the curtain rod looks a little wonky. The bamboo blinds were a good solution! Any thoughts on making them blackout bamboo so you can lose the white blinds underneath?

  2. It's moody and sophisticated - gorgeous! I had to laugh at the 1970's black and white. You're ancient, Mom ;)

  3. Autumn I adore the sneak peeks and I can’t wait for the reveal! I love the direction the space is going in. As a fellow ORC participant it’s been wonderful to gather some fantastic inspiration. I’d love for you to share your progress at Thoughts of Home on Thursday. Our readers would love to see it. The gathering is at http://www.decortoadore.net

  4. Uh, OK, I think "young Frankenstein" was in B/W, but was that the 70's??

Too funny, but he sounds like an old soul. Love the room, btw. I would NEVER have the guts to paint a room black, so good for you (and him).

Are you planning to leave the wooden blinds under the bamboo? I've not seen that before -- what't the idea bhind that -- just for looks?

Can't wait for the reveal -- cross another room off your list!
