hardware for the island

sorry for the lack of posting last week. it was our spring break, which means my kids were home all week, and things (of course) were busy with the new house. we decided to start packing and cleaning our rental house as well...hey, free child labor, right? gotta take advantage of THAT! my kids were not so thrilled. we didn't spend every second working of course...i made sure that we had a little adventure every day so that it still felt a little like spring break!

believe it or not, i have STILL not made all of the decisions that i need to for the house.
i still have not selected the hardware for the kitchen cabinets.
i know, i know!
nothing like waiting until the last minute! (my contractor/husband is being very patient with me!)
however, i HAVE decided on the hardware for the kitchen island. i feel in love with this image:

i think what i love about it is the mixing of all the metal tones...the hardware is brass, the faucet is chrome, the light fixture is black/dark bronze, and the sconce by the fireplace is vintage gold.
i know some people think that mixing metals is bad, but i think that brass and chrome is the new peanut butter and jelly!
mix away, i say!

in my new kitchen, i will be mixing metal tones.
my faucet will be chrome.
the light fixtures in the kitchen will be a combination of black and brass. (i am going to wait to purchase most of the kitchen and dining fixtures until after we move in. i know what i want, i just cant afford them right now!)
and for the island, i decided on some pretty antique brass campaign pulls from ansaldi & sons.

even though the sides and back of the island are striped with wire brushed oak and RH slate:

the front of the island (that will house the sink, dishwasher and microwave) will be solid RH slate.
here is a picture of them next to a quarter, so you can get a better idea of the scale:

things are starting to move quickly! i have some great update pictures that i will be sharing soon, as well as some more decisions and selections!

  1. LOOOOVE the pulls!!! So classic but yet so different! I totally mixed metals in my new kitchen and pantry too! More mix the better in my book! Can't wait to see more updates!

  2. Oh the striped island is genius! And I love the pulls too. I had considered something similar for the hutch in our kitchen but decided against it because I wasn't willing to commit to something that couldn't be changed down the road but just filling a few holes. But I love yours and they will look amazing on that island. Looks like it's really coming together.

    1. thank you! i did fret a little bit about the recessed pulls...knowing that they cant be swapped out. but, i just decided to GO FOR IT! i will be a little more conservative on the rest of the kitchen, though.

  3. Your inspiration picture is from a tiny house that is for sale in Birmingham, Al!! I'd still love to buy it - not only is it beautifully done, but it's in one of the best locations in Mountain Brook. It's only about 1400 sq feet though. You should check it out to see more pictures of it! I think it was featured in House Beautiful, too.

    1. thank you for the photo source! i knew i had seen this home recently in one of my magazines! small, pretty houses are little treasures. i dream about living in a tiny home one day after the kids are gone. who knows....maybe even one like this in birmingham! i would love to return to the south one day.

  4. Love Ansaldi & Sons hardware. I've turned to them time and again for my furniture projects. Those are beautiful!

  5. I simply cοuldn't go away your website before suggesting that I extremely enjoyed the usual info an individual supply in your visitors? Is gonna be again regularly to check out new posts

Look into my web blog - cash paid for scrap cars

  6. It's great fun watching you build and pull together your beautiful new home. Thanks for sharing!

  8. I'm always afraid to mix metals, but that inspiration photo is gorgeous {as are your pulls!!!}

  9. You are amazing. I love the pulls. They are classic, they have always been in style and always will be. The trendy things change, obviously, but the pulls, you can never go wrong with them. What I want to know, is are you going to do an open house? I am local and I will make you cookies... And my mom and sisters will probably want to come. I will say we crazy, but not physco. Although that is probably what physco people say ;)

  10. Oooh it is going to be beautiful! How exciting. Love all of your choices :)
