pink + navy nursery

My client was a few weeks away from having her baby girl when she approached me
about designing the nursery for her new little bundle.
 I absolutely adore
designing spaces for kids and especially babies,
so I jumped at the opportunity.
your first "real" peek!
(thanks for being so patient...)
the creation of this nursery was truly a labor of love...
with family and friends and neighbors pitching in to
paint and sew.
most of the plates were picked up at tj maxx.
i scored the square plates there for $1 a piece!
the mirror was found at hobby lobby.
this pretty plate was a gift from the babys's grandmother,
who brought it back from a trip to portugal years ago.
the walls are painted benjamin moores
"yours truly"

the pennant adds a dose of blue to the bed, and ties together the many blue fabrics we used in this room.

a graphic pattern on the valances is a
fun contrast against the pink walls.
simple ikea sheers trimmed in navy blue pom pom fringe
finish off the windows.

you  can find the tutorial for
recovering these shades here.
the desk nook behind the chair was transformed using a
stock shelf from a hardware store, a tension rod, and some fabric.
i will be posting a tutorial later in the week.

a tutorial for these pillows will also be posted soon.
you won't believe how easy they were to make!

a subtle motif, stamped on the back wall
adds another layer of whimsy.
the old light fixture was changed out
for something more feminine.
since little amelia was born on valentines day, we framed
4 vintage valentines in the room.
can you spot the other 3?
the scalloped trim and shirred skirt hide extra storage.
the ceiling medallion was purchased at a hardware store
for $15 and painted pink.
i know, the clock is sideways.

the sweet, vintage gown that amelia was blessed in.
(we'll get around to painting those screws...sometime.)
the chandelier started out a bronze-ish gold color,
but we spray painted it a crisp white.
instead of the typical mobile, we opted for something a little more
organic and unique, an idea i first saw used here.
i love to create kids rooms that have a sense of history, and one
way to achieve this is to
use and create accessories that have meaning.
for instance, each of the birds represents a member of this family.
there are 3 boys...
two girls...
and a pair of lovebirds that
started the whole thing!
you can find the template for the birds here.

the tutorial for the
fabric silhouettes is found here.

the anthropologie knobs look perfect on the closet doors,
and drawers of the changing table.
the valances are trimmed in simple grosgrain ribbon.
hope you enjoyed the tour!
i've got some neat tutorials scheduled for
later in the week, so be sure to stop back by.
