a touch of houndstooth

it was loud at my house last night.
very loud.
my husband is a huge alabama crimson tide fan, and they were playing lsu in the
bcs championship game last night. there was a lot of cheering and clapping, and yelling at the referees, and....
celebrating! yep-in the first shut-out in a bcs championship game since ever, alabama beat lsu  21-0.
which is s BIG deal if you're into football. (which i am not, but i AM into my husband!)

one of the past coaches, bear bryant, used to wear a houndstooth hat, and it has become a
signature print for the team.
SO, in honor of the win (and for my very excited husband), here are a few pretty rooms with a touch of houndstooth.

a gorgeous room with just the right amount of print from the very talented caitlin creer.

i adore this room, designed by jonathan adler via house + home. kinda wishing the image was bigger so i could bask in it's loveliness without my eyes going buggy...

this is a preppy chic room by marshall watson, featured in  house beautiful.
that striped rug and two acrylic tables are perfect!

houndstooth double-duty.
love the trim on the drapes too.
via bhg.

i really like how this green geometric pillow perks up the brown houndstooth on this chair.

it's hard to look at this room without being happy. there is a lot going on here, but it all works so well.
apartment therapy
thèse matching chairs are a nice pop of pattern in this pretty neutral room.

i really like these black built-ins, and the touches of houndstooth on the back of the chairs and in the  throw.

i love my husband, but i know i am NOT alone in saying that i am GLAD that there are 8 more months until college football starts up again!

trellis stool makeovers

as you probably know, i have been in love with
these trellis stools for-ever.
i finally bought my self a pair right after christmas.
(sadly, i just found out that jc penny no longer carries them!
i am so glad i pulled the trigger when i did.)
patti, a client of mine, also bought a pair.
i absolutely love how she chose to cover her pair of these fun little stools:
i love the large scale fabric, and the fact that the stools
aren't a "perfect" match...
yesterday afternoon, i finally got around
to recovering mine:
i already had the fabric...i didn't want to do anything too crazy or expensive, since these will for sure
change when i get to decorate house #6.
i think they add a nice little dose of fun to the room.

oh, and a big thank you to knock off decor for featuring my anthopologie lampshade yesterday!
you can see the feature here.

happy weekend everybody!

toile de boy

welcome to grady's room!
yep, i used toile in my son's room.
but not to worry...it's a very manly toile---
complete with cowboys and dogs, and horses and
uh...manly stuff.
i designed this room
(the bedding, curtain panels, furniture, most accessories)
about 3 years ago, just as grady was
getting out of a crib. i hoped it would grow with him,
and serve him until he was 7 or 8.
so far, so good!
keep in mind that this is a rental.
(hence, the ugly brass light fixture.)
sooo i kept the walls very neutral, and did not add trim.
the duvet cover, bedskirt and
curtain panels were all custom-made.
the (MANLY) toile was purchased in atlanta,
at a large discount fabric store,
and the bedskirt fabric was purchased from joann fabrics.
nothing fancy, here folks.
wait till you see where i bought the fabric for the curtain panels!
the wall color is lenox tan,
by benjamin moore.
the striped dresser was purchased at
the furniture mall in hickory, north carolina.
the shelf was already in the room.
lucky me!
a pair of boots that my little man
has outgrown. *sigh.
most of the vintage trophies are metal...
the running trophy was my husbands,
which he won when he was eight years old.
my little man earned this one though...
along with all the belts!
i customized this from a shadow box with
some red fabric and vintage blocks.
the sterling silver rattle was a baby gift.
you know i love houndstooth!
a set of vintage embroidered cars.
and a sign that pretty much sums up my little man!

these were purchased on ebay.
they are in their original frames, but the
mats were in terrible shape, so i had them
replaced with silk mats.
isn't the detail scrumptious?
love it...
i bought the fabric for the curtains at
walmart, (yes, walmart!) for $1 a yard!
the cornice "belongs" to the rental house,
but i covered the original hunter/burgundy/navy stripe
with black burlap.
i repeated the curtain fabric on the
piping of the duvet cover.
the bed is from jc penney,
the table from tj maxx homegoods.
i bought the clock for $1 at a local thrift store.
the tractor is actually a tooth fairy box.

the vintage license plates were also
purchased on ebay. they represent the
home states of me (ohio),
my husband (alabama),
 and my little man (tennessee)
i love adding vintage items to a kids room.
i feel it gives them a sense of history and charm.
i made this usa pillow.
i will post a tutorial later this week.

for a little fun, i used these
cheetah print sheets from ralph lauren.
(purchased at tj maxx)
the the metal board was purchased at
a little store in hartselle, alabama.
these are actually vintage postcards,
which were purchased at an antique store in
knoxville tennessee. i cut some cream paper
to create a little fame around the postcard,
and then glued it onto a striped piece of
scrapbook paper.
the frames cost less than $4 at target.
i gave this map to my husband as a
birthday gift when were engaged.
the map is of micronesia/guam, where he
spent two years as a missionary before he started college.
thanks for stopping by!
