ceiling fans in pretty bedrooms

when i consult with clients or design a bedroom--especially a master bedroom, one item that always seems to come up is
the ceiling fan!

most people apologize about wanting or needing a ceiling fan in their bedrooms---or apologize for their PARTNER wanting or needing one.
while i totally agree that a fabulous light fixture in the bedroom is far prettier than a ceiling fan, it does not mean that you can't have a pretty room because there is a ceiling fan in it! i usually fall in line with the philosophy of:
"it's YOUR house, and YOU should be comfortable in it.

(i mean, it's not like veranda or architectural digest will be pounding on any or our doors wanting to do a photo shoot of our bedrooms...only to discover that we have a CEILING FAN, which completely destroys the look of the room. i mean, COME ON. if sleeping with a fan on at night helps you (or your partner) sleep better, then WHY not have one? who cares what veranda, or house beautiful, or even other bloggers have to say about it?)

it's YOUR house.
do what you want.
and if you want a ceiling fan...then HAVE one.
and who says that a bedroom can't be chic and beautiful and elegant and STILL have a ceiling fan in it?
feast your eyes on these beautiful bedrooms....all with ceiling fans!

just be sure to get those ceiling fans installed by a master electrician. one to try is expert electrical! they not only install, but have everything you could possibly need for any electrical project.

since we have been married, we have had a ceiling fan in nearly all of our bedrooms, and i never thought i would be able to sleep well without one. when we moved into our last rental house, and i discovered that the master bedroom didn't have a fan, i thought i was going to DIE! however, after 3 years of living without a ceiling fan, i definitely think that  i could live perfectly well without one....

how about you?
do you have a ceiling fan in your bedroom? or do you hate them?
OR---do you have a love/hate relationship with the ceiling fan--you hate them,
but HAVE to have one??

  3. I have a love/hate with our bedroom fan. I wish we had a chandelier since I'm obsessed with my vintage inspired electric fan. (Addicted to the noise to help me get to sleep!) It's rare that we use the overhead fan but our canopy bed placement keeps the idea of anything else being an option. When we build I'll have an overhead in the guest bedroom but that's prob it as far as bedrooms go.
By the way that fan from Pulp Design Studios is incredibly cool!

  4. My husband put his foot down and said the ceiling fan is staying in our bedroom when we moved into our new house, don't tell him that now that I'm pregnant and hot all the time, that ceiling fan has become my best friend! I think the key to a ceiling fan when you have to have them is to pick a plain one that doesn't compete with the rest of the room.

  5. I have a ceiling fan in my master and it is on 100% of the time. It is a nice fan, and I think it is the right accent for the colonial tropical vibe.

  8. Love this post and yes the ceiling fan in our bedroom runs 100% of the time! We have a 2 story house, but not dual zoned hvac so a fan is a definitely need, especially in the summer!

  9. i agree! i really love the air circulation that a fan puts out, but really don't like the way they look. why can't someone invent an attractive fan--or a fan that FEELS like a fan but is inside the ceiling? maybe one day...

  10. I want to talk about headboards. All I see lately are upholstered ones. All of your photos had them. I like them, but I'm wondering if wood or metal ones are just totally out or what?

    1. i think that upholstered headboard happen to be really popular right now because they add some softness and texture to a room, but metal and wood ones will never be "out" in my opinion. things in interior design cycle through "fads", and one thing that people are loving rich now are upholstered headboards. plus---it IS a lot cozier and softer to have an upholstered headboard than a wood or metal one....

  13. I live in Texas in a two story house and we have ceiling fans in all the bedrooms. People who are not from here cannot imagine how hot it is still at night. They are a necessity.

    1. i think its pretty funny that SO many of us like to sleep with the fan on, but there are hardly any pictures of bedrooms in magazines without ceiling fans!
i guess people whose g=homes are featured in magazines don't sweat.

  16. In Arizona during the summer it can still be 100 degrees even at 10pm at night. Fans in bedrooms are a MUST around here.

    Great pictures!

  17. We live in a house without air conditioning in the south and we couldn't do it without ceiling fans. I have felt somewhat apologetic for committing this design fauz pas. Thanks for validating them!

  18. Since ceiling fan blades come in different sizes, it‘s imperative to know the right size of blades for the ceiling fan in your bedroom. If you have a large room, you can select a blade greater than 50 inches. Also, a ceiling fan that generates multiple speed options would be a best choice. It will provide you with the most comfortable sleeping environment.
