laundry + mudroom PROGRESS

remember when i started this project? yeah..its been so long that even i ALMOST don't remember.
so, just to refresh our memories, here is the laundry and mudroom in my house.
small, but full of potential.

before:
no cabinets. no storage. no counter. just a lonely washer and dryer and a pretty cute striped floor.

another kooky panoramic view, standing in the laundry room:

from the garage entry, looking into the mudroom area:

AND>>>>an update...these spaces are still not done.
however, a lot of progress has been made.
the paneling up in the hallway. it still needs to be caulked and painted, and we need to install thicker baseboards to macth the thickness of the paneling. (long story---the carpenters put in paneling that was triple the thickness that we asked for, even thicker than our baseboards!! ugh. so now, we need to replace the baseboards with material that is the same crazy thickness)

the laundry room is well on its way to being done!
i installed the window shade, the cabinets and counter are in, and a new light was installed.

oh...and the hardware for this room is fantastic! i LOVE it, and get giddy whenever i open a cabinet.
(i  used the tolson hardware from rejuvenation)

isn't it yummy?

the counters are a honed black granite.

the light is from west elm.

the mudroom cabinets are in...after being made WRONG twice.
the storage here has transformed my life! i love it!

the drawer fronts are a metal mesh, and the long leather wrapped hardware is a nice textural addition.
all the paneling needs to be caulked, sanded and painted.
after that happens, i can install the wallpaper on the ceiling and install the new lights.

i will also get some glass transoms made, which will add even more character to this tiny space.

SO, there you have it!
a little peek at the progress of the laundry and mudroom. i am not sure when this space will be TOTALLY finished, but when it is, i will be thrilled to share it with you!

charlotte moss trims

charlotte moss recently introduced a new line of trim and fabrics available
at calico corners. the fabrics are feminine and traditional, and would look
great mixed with graphic prints and stripes, but what i am really loving are
a few of the trims:

my favorite is this one: a 2" fretwork inspired trim called "berlin".
it is available in 6 colors.

i also adore this one, (also around 2") called "munich"

there is also this cording (piping/welting) available in 11 colors.

here are a few great ways to use those wide trims and the cording:
i adore the look of trims added to the edge of curtains panels. it add another layer of
detail in a room that adds so much to a room.

this patterned roman shade gets a more tailored looks with the
addition of trim on the bottom.
(found via pinterest, but original source unknown.)

cording/welting/piping on edge of a pillow can really make a pillow eye-catching.

house update: trim details

my clients house is coming along nicely. oh, how i LOVE building houses!
my husband was in the residential construction industry for a decade, and in addition to the many custom homes we built for our clients, we also built two personal homes and remodeled another three. i LOVE all phases of new construction, but my favorite is when the trim carpenters show up. i love seeing sketches like this...

and this...
turn in to this:

and this:

and this:

here is a peek at the mud room built-ins. they are the prettiest shade of grey/blue:
the house is coming together so well. i am looking forward to sharing the final pictures!

all buttoned up

i spotted this duralee trim--called
"button tape"
at my local fabric supply house and
immediately started dreaming about where i could put it.

the possibilities are endless...
pillows?
the leading edge of some curtain panels?
on a bedskirt?
an ottoman?
i'm giddy just thinking about it...

however, at nearly $60 a yard (retail)
i am trying to figure out if i can make it myself...
i know i can buy some shell buttons in bulk on ebay
rather inexpensively, but i am having trouble locating
some simple, striped twill or grosgrain
ribbon with a similar look.
any ideas?

lazy girl bedskirt trim

i am still working on a few small projects for my oldest daughters room.
one of those projects was to add some trim to her existing bedskirt.
the problem?
i didn't want to remove the bedskirt to add the trim.
so.
i.
didn't.
(tooooo lazy)
so, i came up with the following strategy...
here's what i used:
 pom pom trim
(this is a box pleated queen bedskirt,
and i used about 9 yards of trim)
fabric adhesive
LOTS (and lots) of binder clips
so, basically, i just applied a thin strip of fabric adhesive to
the bottom of the skirt, and attached a binder clip to help
hold the trim in place until it dried.
like i said, i used a LOT of clips...
about one every 2-3 inches.
when i got to a corner, i applied some glue to  the backside of
the skirt, wrapped the trim, and held it in place with a large binder clip.
my bedskirt has three sections, and so i did this in three stages.
as soon as the glue dried (about an hour),
i moved on to the next section.
ta---da!
the perfect way for a lazy girl
to add trim to a bedskirt without
removing it.
