windows + range hoods

did you notice that on the floor plan of my new house, there are windows on either side of the hood/range in the kitchen? it is one of the features that i am really excited about. that back wall is going to be an important feature in the house because it is open to the great room, dining room and entry.

here are some fabulous inspiration pictures o found of windows on either side of a range and hood:
love the copper hood here. the ceiling in this kitchen are at least 11', while ours will only be 9'. the transoms above the windows are a nice touch too...

mmmm. LOVE this one. the straight sided hood and arch detail are perfect. i would put some art on the hood if it were in my house....

isn't this one elegant?
i really love the maybe slab on the backslash, and that hood is so sleek.
both totally out of my price range, but fun to look at.

my range will not be this wide, but i like the simple lines of the hood. and those herringbone floors are GORG-eous.

simple and pretty. my windows will be wider than these, but i like the simple feeling
of this set up.

this is about the height that my ceilings will be. i really like the x detail on the cabinet fronts.

so classic and simple.

this is a pretty small kitchen....well, small for a "magazine worthy" kitchen. the wood counters really add some warmth to the white cabinets and white marble.

do you notice a pattern here? doesn't it seem like all of these kitchens are white??

what do you think about this look?
do you like windows on either side of a range?
is it something that you have noticed before, or does it seem to be something
that has just popped up in the last few years?

  1. I like the look the look of the windows on either side. It's something a little different from always having the sink by the window. My favorite is the first image with the copper hood - so gorgeous!

  2. As far as I'm concerned, any windows you can fit in a kitchen are a really good idea and I certainly love the idea of having windows flanking the range. I'd happily give up the storage in upper cabinets in my kitchen to have a wall of windows.

  4. I've never really noticed these before. I suppose as kitchens in general become more grand, multiple windows are more common. Lucky homeowners! I think I prefer it when either the windows or the hood take prominence but not both, so I like the pairing of monochromatic hood and dressed windows, or bold hood and undressed windows.

  5. We have a windows on the side of our range hood. We built our house in 2008 and I still love the look. We also have a window over our sink. I love natural light. Love your blog too! Have fun building. I look forward to reading/ seeing it come together.
